He is not that good.
He throws a mediocre flattish fastball, that on occasion has a hard sink to it. Can’t miss bats. Need to miss bats to be efficient and effective in MLB.
He is ultimately a back of rotation starter that can give you innings and on occasion when his ball is sinking will appear to be dominant. But he has no fall back pitch, and worse his composure is not major league level.
The season doesn’t end on opening day, and the Mets have modest aspirations at best. But what you saw tonight was their biggest achilles heal. They can’t match up well against elite pitchers in the league. To be determined whether they can match up against the second tier effectively enough.
Lot of green, but nothing about Pelfrey or the Mets performance surprised me last night.
